Visited Funan yesterday and saw Gamescore now merge with another shop?
And now they have a PlayStation Authorised Store :p

Re: Gamescore

I think the Playstation Authorised Store is their game shop now. Their old shop is selling stuff from Epicloot, their sister shop.

Re: Gamescore

The purpose of this post is just a personal opinion with no ill intent having visited both branches at Funan and Seletar Mall. I feel that something about the fengshui or arrangement of the shop/lighting makes it not attractive.

I do not know the reasons why Gamescore decided to merge with Epic Loot, but I find that Gamescore has lost its identity of a "for gamers, by gamers"-feel, as the familiar warm orange/yellowish hue of their old store is now replaced by the blue Playstation style shop-front, that is no different from any other stores. Honestly, we walked from the level 5 foodcourt and passed by their new shop (at Funan) without even looking in, as I was so used to the former shop at their old location. Nothing in that new shop attracted me to walk in, which is really quite shocking. In fact, I find their competitors to be more visually attractive than their new store! And let's not even talk about prices, being situated in town, I know the prices cannot beat neighbourhood shops. However, something about the arrangement of the games in their new shop just makes me lose the urge to step in. everything just feels cramp, dull and boring.

Fast forward a few days, said friend and I were at Seletar Mall and decided to check out the Gamescore shop there. The feel that that shop gives me is like a newly opened Comics Connection (sans comics) as half the shop was selling games (limited library at unattractive prices - e.g. Shadow Warrior at 5x?? when a competitor at Nex is selling brand-new at 3x??), while the other half (Epic Loot I guess), was selling Minecraft merchandise such as shirts and minecraft blocky sword, which I picked up, and wonder whotf will buy these (comics connection also sell alot of merchandise with K-star prints). The ONLY thing that attracted us were the amiibos and even that sadly, were for display only (e.g. some rare ones like villager, wii fit instructor - there was a label stating "For Display Only"). What for put on display if there is no option to buy or order it via the shop? There were 2 pre-owned 3ds titles - Mario 3D land and NSMB2, at $25 each, but that shop just gave off a vibe that made me not wanna buy anything in that shop. The two of us walked out after 20 minutes, and just wish that shop good luck.

The above is just me, and I have every wish for Gamescore to be profitable for years to come, having been a regular patron since 2005. I hope it is just off-peak timing (lunch time 12-1230) as we did not see anyone in the shop other than us, and hopefully business is more brisk at other timings.

Re: Gamescore

Epic Loot belongs to Gamescore. Maybe it makes sense finance-wise to occupy one store instead of two different ones (and incurring two rental fees)?

Personally their new PlayStation Authorised Store give me the 'atas' feel so I will have a false impression that the games they selling also not cheap
I still prefer their old store which is more 'peasant' style

Re: Gamescore

Their old Funan shop, as you come up from the escalator, it will come into your line of sight on the left, and the color scheme stands out. Now you got to turn around to face the new shop but you still won't notice it cos the color and lighting just blends in. It's a challenge to remember any of its neighboring shops too (was there a music school or hair saloon next to it?). And if you are going down the escalator, you should be facing their new shop but you won't see it cos your view is blocked by the Challenger escalators. I am surprised Epic Loot lasted so long at that blind spot.
